Mosheen Wins Edward Manifold Stakes 2011 – Flemington Racing

October 5th, 2011

Mosheen has firmed in price for the Group 1 Thousand Guineas in horse racing betting markets after winning the 2011 Edward Manifold Stakes last Sunday at Flemington Racecourse.

The three-year-old filly won the Group 3 Edward manifold Stakes by three lengths ahead of Bliss Street and Celebrity Girl.

Trainer Robert Smerdon attributed the lightning fast win to the addition of blinkers to Mosheen’s regular gear.

“I took them off her and then (after) her last start Danny said we need them back so I sort of succumbed and it looked like it was the right call,” Smerdon said.

“I thought she was a little bit keen in the blinkers in the early part of the race so that was a bit of a worry but she switched off mid-race and I think having had that run with the blinkers on and having had that run over the mile she might be a little bit more tractable.”

Mosheen is now the $4.60 second favourite for the 2011 Thousand Guineas, which will take place next Wednesday October 12, 2011, at Caulfield Racecourse.

“Definitely the Thousand Guineas is her main aim and we’re hoping with her pedigree that she’ll stretch out and even be here on Oaks day.”

The Fastnet Rock filly is also the $5 second favourite for the $1 million Crown Oaks on November 3, 2011.
